New season bags from Bags in Progress have arrived and are now available in-store and online. “You use a bag because it suits your living pattern or occupation.” Scroll down to read more about Bags in Progress’ ethos and its designer Chiharu Hayashi…
“Our brand is about functionality, durability and simple design. Form, details and materials are inspired by authentic tool bags for workers, military bags and anonymous vintage bags, which were all created based on functionality.
Every detail and size of each bag is decided with meaning, and materials carefully chosen to fit each function. Special care is given for quality and attention to details…all styles can be folded flat for easier travel and take up less room to be stored.
Some examples of my thoughts behind the details…I always feel cumbersome carrying a case for sunglasses. So, I put a simple tubular inside at the top of the Tool Tote, therefore the glasses are protected without a case and can be taken out easily as you keep the bag on your shoulder, as if a construction worker takes out his hammer from his bag at his waist. Also, handles have webbing on the backside, because I want the handles to sit on your shoulder comfortably without slipping off (webbing is used for shoulder straps and details on military bags to be held tight on your body). I love clutch bags, but I lost my favorite one TWICE…I put a hidden handle on my clutch, so I can securely hold it in 2-ways.
I like to learn the living pattern of people, who the person is, what she/he does, what she/he carries everyday, and think what type of form and details completes their needs and find the possible solutions…how a worker’s tool bag was made. The more I learn, the more ideas and possible solutions come across my mind. This is why my design and its processes are always in progress, as the brand name implies. I don’t think that I will find a point where I will feel I completed a design because time is moving, needs and living patterns change as people are changing…I purposely repeat the same forms but also enjoy updating the design according to my new findings while keeping the integrity of the functionality itself.”
From Bags in Progress’ designer Chiharu Hayashi.
All pieces are made in a small craft shop in New York City.
“Secret powers of a naked flower for the love of Louis the XIV, Mademoiselle de La Vallière enveloped herself in the sweet and shattering intensity of tuberoses. Damp fragrance of an intoxicating love: from the King’s bedroom to her convent, Louise de la Vallière personified this deeply sensual flower, which plump and overwhelming aromas are that of true, blinding, almost spiritual love.”
As loved by the author - a distinctly feminine scent with powerful bergamot and tuberose notes… All Cire Trudon candles, room scents and room sprays available online and in-store at Envoy of Belfast. The story of King Louis XIV of France’s mistress Louise de la Valliere is an interesting one – read more about her and this smell in this interesting blog post from a keen perfumer.
Top note : bergamot, orange blossom, galbanum
Middle : tuberose, jasmin, ylang
Base : musk, rockrose, benzoin resin
